Porsche’s planned Carrera World Cup has been canceled, with the German manufacturer citing “economic and geopolitical challenges” that led to an insufficient number of entries.

Originally announced for March 5-8 at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, it was set to mark the second-ever worldwide gathering of Carrera Cup competitors in a World Cup format, following the inaugural edition in 2011 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

While up to 100 participants were expected for the Barcelona event, Porsche confirmed to teams last weekend that it will not go forward.

“The economic and geopolitical challenges unfortunately affect global customer racing activities as well,” a statement provided to Sportscar365 read.

“Therefore, it has not been possible to recruit a sufficient amount of teams and drivers for the planned Porsche Carrera World Cup in Barcelona in March 2026 to adequately host the event according to our/the standards and expectations within the Porsche one-make series.”

Sportscar365 understands the timing of the World Cup, which was to feature the outgoing Type-992.1 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, amid the rollout of the new Type-992.2 Porsche 911 Cup car to key single-make markets this year, also played a factor in a smaller-than-expected demand for the race.

The new car is set to make its debut in Carrera Cup Germany, North America and Asia, as well as Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup competition this year.
