Avelon Formula topped the time charts in Friday’s first practice session of the Gulf 12 Hours at Yas Marina Circuit.
The No. 45 Wolf GB08 of Ivan Bellarosa and Guglielmo Belotti outpaced yesterday’s fastest car, the No. 3 AF Corse Ferrari of Steve Wyatt, Michele Rugolo and Davide Rigon.
Right from the start the Wolf was on the pace, only losing the top spot for just over two minutes, when the No. 11 Kessel Racing Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 went quickest.
The No. 45 car put in the fastest lap of the session, a 2:11.147, at the 45-minute mark. Four other cars got into the 2:11s towards the end of the session but none of the drivers was able to beat the fastest time.
After 70 minutes the No. 3 AF Corse was four-tenths ahead of the AF Corse Ferrari and the Abu Dhabi Racing by Black Falcon Mercedes of Khaled Al Qubaisi, Jeroen Bleekemolen and Bernd Schneider.
The No. 77 AF Corse Ferrari of Adrien de Leener, Cedric Sbirrazzuoli and David Akhobadze was quickest in Pro-Am, finishing the session in fourth overall, half a second behind the Wolf.
The new McLaren 650S GT3 cars finished the session in 15th and 18th quickest, with the No. 59 car of Alvaro Parente, Kevin Estre and Rob Bell 2.633s slower than the pace setting Wolf GB08.
The session saw one red flag for the No. 77 Kessel Racing Ferrari stopping on track.
