McLaren Trophy America will close out its chapter with SRO America this week with a triple-header season finale at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
A total of 22 McLaren Artura Trophy EVO cars are set for track action at The Brickyard, although 14 cars are expected to take part in Wednesday’s Miami Race 2 Makeup, due to the eight cars not having slated to take part at the Miami Gardens venue in May.
Championship battles will go down to the wire in all three classes, particularly Pro and Pro-Am, with only eight points separating the top three in Pro and a single point between the protagonists in Pro-Am.
Following their win in Race 2 at Road America, Forte Racing’s Patrick Liddy and Tanner Harvey hold a four-point lead over teammate Kaia Teo, with RWE Motorsports’ James Li and Sam Neser just four points further behind.
Any of the three entires could still walk away with the Pro title, considering a maximum of 36 points are up for grabs this week.
In Pro-Am, RWE’s Spencer Schmidt leads the way but a class win and runner-up at Road America has put the Greystone GT duo of Oliver Webb and Ryan James into prime contention, and momentum on their side.
GMG Racing’s Randy Highland, who will again team up with reigning McLaren Trophy Europe champion Michael O’Brien, also heads into the event with a chance of the title, sitting third on 51 points.
With Denis Teomaan and Jeff Cook ending their season early, Forte’s Cooper Broll could lock up the Am class title in the Miami Make Up Race.
Broll holds a 29-point lead over Orlando Motorsports Services driver Fabio Grecco.
Among the new entries for this week include GMG team owner James Sofronas, who will team up with his 16-year-old son Jenson for the first time in the entry that had been previously occupied by Teoman and Cook.
ANSA Motorsports will field a Pro-Am entry for Ned MacPherson and Tom Dyer, while Jon Spinks is set for his series debut with Canadian squad Auto Eclectic Motorsports.
Flying Lizard Motorsports will have two all-new lineups in Evan King and Dominic Starkweather (No. 62) and Michael Suco Jr. and program manager Darren Law (No. 77), who makes his series debut.)
It replaces the team’s Am class McLaren of Johnny O’Connell and Philip Ploskas, who are not entered for the final three-race run.
Track action begins on Wednesday with a morning test session followed by a single practice before the Miami Make Up Race at 5:10 p.m. EST.
Qualifying for the two regularly scheduled races is on tap for Thursday morning, with Race 1 set for 5:15 p.m. EST, and Race 2 on Friday at 1:40 p.m. EST. All three season-ending races will be streamed on McLaren Automotive and SRO’s GT World YouTube channels.
