Jaminet, Campbell to Drive WeatherTech Porsche at Sebring

Porsche factory drivers Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell will join Cooper MacNeil in WeatherTech Racing’s GT Le Mans-class entry for the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

A spokesperson for the team confirmed to Sportscar365 that last year’s Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli runners-up will drive the No. 79 Porsche 911 RSR-19 in round two of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship on March 20.

MacNeil, who is WeatherTech Racing’s full-time GTLM driver, contested the season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona with Kevin Estre, Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz.

Campbell lined up in the GTD class at Daytona with Porsche squad Pfaff Motorsports, while Jaminet was due to represent RWR Eurasia Motorsport in LMP2 until the Frenchman was forced to withdraw from the event after testing positive for COVID-19.

Both drivers piloted the Porsche 911 RSR-19 last season as part of their Michelin Endurance Cup roles with the CORE autosport-run Porsche factory GTLM squad.

Campbell secured a class win at Motul Petit Le Mans alongside Nick Tandy and Frederic Makowiecki, while both he and Jaminet chalked up podiums in the Rolex 24.

Campbell and Jaminet also contested two GT3 programs together in 2020 alongside Patrick Pilet, driving for GPX Racing in the IGTC and Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup. The trio finished second in both championships.

The duo are expected to split driving duties with full-time driver MacNeil for the remainder of the season.

WeatherTech Racing tested its Proton Competition-run Porsche at Sebring last week in preparation for its second outing in the IMSA GTLM ranks.

The privateer team is aiming to rebound from a tumultuous first race with its Porsche at Daytona that included a start-line accident and other issues.
