Brandon Gdovic has sustained multiple injuries following a serious three-car accident in Saturday’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race at Watkins Glen.
A statement issued by Precision Performance Motorsports confirmed that the series veteran was transported by helicopter to a local hospital following the accident and was diagnosed with a broken leg in three places, a broken pelvis in three places and a concussion.
“He remains under the care of the medical team as he continues to undergo evaluation and begins his recovery,” the team statement read.
“We are grateful to the AMR Safety Team, first responders, and hospital staff for their swift response and care.”
There was contact between Gdovic’s No. 46 PPM Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 and the No. 73 Breathless Racing entry of Luke Berkeley on the third lap through the high-speed Esses, resulting in a spin by Gdovic, who was collected by Avery Towns and James Lawley’s fellow Pro class entries.
The accident resulted in a 20-minute red flag period to tend to the drivers and to complete track cleanup.
While Lawley was evaluated and released from the infield medical center, Towns was also transported to a local hospital and revealed that he has an injured left foot.
He posted on social media: “Forever grateful for Lamborghini building such a safe car. Huge thanks to AMR Safety Team for the quick response to the scene.
“I’ve received messages from countless drivers and fans and I sincerely appreciate all of you checking in.
“I have an injured foot but overall came out on the better end. Please keep the other drivers involved in your thoughts.”
All three drivers were awake and alert throughout per an IMSA spokesperson.
