Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America champion-elect Riley Dickinson scored his tenth victory of the season following a controlling run in Saturday’s opening round of the weekend at Circuit of The Americas.
The Kellymoss driver took his No. 53 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car to a 7.686-second win over pole-sitter Tom Sargent, who lost the lead to Dickinson on the opening lap of the 40-minute contest.
Dickinson survived an early race caution for the No. 77 Topp Racing Porsche of Travis Wiley and restart to bridge out into a commanding lead for the remainder of the race.
Alex Sedgwick completed the overall and Pro class podium in the No. 98 PT Autosport-backed JDX Racing Porsche, followed by Michael McCarthy and Michael Cooper, who completed the top-five, having enjoyed a late-race battle with Will Martin, who came home sixth.
Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 14 GMG Racing Porsche of James Sofronas, who took advantage of a spinning Kayden Kelly in the early stages of the race.
Sofronas finished 1.730-seconds ahead of class champion-elect Efrin Castro in second.
The Am class saw Mark Kvamme take a last-lap class victory over MDK Motorsports teammate Scott Noble, keeping his championship hopes alive heading into Sunday’s title decider.
Race 2, which closes out the season, gets underway Sunday at 10:50 a.m. CDT with live coverage on PorscheCarreraCup.us and Peacock, featuring commentary from IMSA Radio’s John Hindhaugh and Shea Adam.
