Ebimotors is set to graduate to European Le Mans Series competition, which will see the Italian team also take on the 24 Hours of Le Mans with a Porsche 911 RSR.
The reigning Michelin Le Mans Cup champions have been confirmed as the final customer for Porsche’s 2018 run of mid-engined GTE cars, joining Proton Competition, Project 1 and Gulf Racing.
A total of seven cars have been allocated to customer teams this year.
The team returns to the German manufacturer following a two-year stint campaigning a Lamborghini Huracan GT3, highlighted by the 2017 Le Mans Cup title for Fabio Babini and Emanuele Busnelli, which provided the auto-invite for Le Mans in GTE-Am.
“2018 could have not started better,” said team owner Enrico Borghi. “The opportunity for me and my team to be part of the most important race in the world is a great honor.
“I have represented Porsche since the beginning of my career and being in Le Mans as the only Italian team is a dream come true.”
Babini (pictured above, right) is so far the only confirmed driver for the program, with the former Lamborghini factory ace set to make his eighth start in the French endurance classic.
The Italian claimed GT class honors in the event in 2001, at the wheel of a Seikel Motorsport Porsche 911 GT3-RS.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Babini said. “Being able to represent Porsche at Le Mans is a privilege, it would be amazing to repeat the victory of 2001 with the same brand.
“The team is a strong reality and is looking to obtain even more successes in the upcoming season.”
Ebimotors is set to receive assistance from Proton Competition this year, as part of a “strategic collaboration” with the German team.
