Lamborghini continued its LMDh testing program with a three-day session at Almeria this week that included Romain Grosjean’s first laps behind the wheel of the SC63.

The Italian manufacturer’s Ligier-based prototype completed “nearly 2,000 km” at the Spanish circuit with Grosjean and Andrea Caldarelli taking turns to drive.

The test took place with a single Lamborghini SC63. This chassis was rolled out and shaken down about a month ago to replace the original test car that was damaged in an accident at Paul Ricard’s Signes corner.

Sportscar365 understands that the replacement chassis completed a two-day test at Cervesina in northern Italy before this week’s Almeria session.

According to Lamborghini, the latest three-day test focused on “reliability and procedural tests” over long runs.

The Lamborghini Iron Lynx team that will run the SC63 in competition next year also simulated race procedures such as Full Course Yellow periods and restarts.

Ex-Formula 1 driver Grosjean started driving on the first afternoon of the test and “equally divided” the mileage with Caldarelli.

“It was a very intense three days, but I am very happy to have been able to work the team and the car on the track for the first time,” said Grosjean.

“The car proved to be very good from the first laps and I can’t wait to put even more kilometers on it during the next tests.

“It felt really good, and I am happy to be in Almeria with the whole team and discovering all the people and the work that has been going on behind the scenes.

“So, I am very excited to be here, the car felt really good from the beginning but obviously we still have a bit of a journey [ahead of us].

“But the work that has been done prior to my arrival has been very good and I am looking forward to learning more about the car.”

Lamborghini plans to continue the test program at Jerez next week and will soon transport a car to the U.S. for homologation and preparation for its partial-season Michelin Endurance Cup program.

The Lamborghini SC63 is set to make its race debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship season-opening Qatar 1812 km on March 2.

“Testing at Almeria went very well and we are particularly satisfied as we saw consistent improvement, which is promising ahead of a pivotal and challenging stage of our preparations,” said Iron Lynx team principal Andrea Piccini.

“We were also delighted to welcome Romain to our LMDh program after seeing him in action in GT Daytona earlier this year.

“We are bracing for a very important set of test days to kick off our American operation as well.”
