Longtime IMSA entrant Bodymotion Racing will expand to SRO Motorsports America competition this year, having confirmed a Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport entry for next weekend’s Pirelli GT4 America season-opener at Circuit of The Americas.

Al Carter and Sean Gibbons have been tabbed to drive the GT4 Am class entry, which will compete in the GT4 East series.

According to team owner Mike Bavaro, the opportunity to expand its program has largely been customer-based.

“As a skilled prep shop and professional racing team, we provide a service to drivers and for us it is customer-driven,” he said.

“With no conflicting dates in GT4 between the SRO and IMSA racing schedules this year, we are now in a position to accommodate drivers by competing in both championships if needed. We’ll race where our customers want to race.”

Both drivers will be making their debuts with the team, with Gibbons securing a ride after a scheduling conflict with his regular co-driver forced him to seek out another team for COTA.

“When I went looking for a team, Bodymotion was a great choice,” Gibbons said. “I have a ton of respect for them and how they operate.

“We’ve talked a few times about doing something together and it just hadn’t worked out so I’m glad it came together for this race.”

Former Rolex 24 at Daytona class winner Carter, meanwhile, returns to COTA on the heels of a win and 2nd place finish in last year’s GTS SprintX races.

“For me, it gets my adrenaline going to know I’m going to COTA with Bodymotion Racing,” Carter said.

“I know the team well as a competitor, and they are good guys, so to be part of the team with an expectation to go out there and perform gets me fired up.”
