SRO Motorsports Group has announced the launch of a new esports championship for GT World Challenge Asia powered by AWS drivers.

Following the success of its European and U.S. esports championships earlier this year, SRO has organized a five-round sim racing series for Asia-based drivers.

It will follow an already planned standalone online GT World Challenge Asia Esports Charity Cup event at Suzuka on Aug. 29.

Then the five-round GTWC Asia Esports Championship, utilizing Assetto Corsa Competizione, will kick off at Monza on Sept. 15.

A pair of 60-minute races will take place per event, the first of which is for real-world racing teams and drivers and the second will feature Asia-based sim racers.

The class titles are broken down into Real-PRO and Real-AM, and Sim-PRO and Sim-AM.

A Teams’ championship for the Real-PRO entrants and a Manufacturers’ title for all registered brand entrants will add extra interest to the series.

A mandatory pit stop during the 60-minute race for each car is set to also add an element of strategy to the events.

The GTWC Asia Esports Championship rounds will take place on Tuesday evenings in Asia in order to not clash with real-world racing.

With the first round taking place at Monza, the calendar will also take in rounds at Laguna Seca, Silverstone, Spa-Francorchamps, and Suzuka.

SRO will stream the races on the GT World YouTube channel.

GT World Challenge Asia Esports Championship calendar:
Aug. 29 – Suzuka (non-championship Charity Cup)
Sep. 15 – Monza
Oct. 06 – Laguna Seca
Oct. 27 – Silverstone
Nov. 10 – Spa-Francorchamps
Nov. 24 – Suzuka
