SRO Launches GT Sports Club for Bronze Drivers

SRO Motorsports Group will introduce a new four round GT Sports Club series for the 2015 season, as it wants to provide bronze-rated gentlemen drivers with their own arena to compete in.

The GT Sports Club is an international series to be approved by the FIA and is reserved for GT3 cars as well as G3 cars homologated by the Belgian ASN RACB.

A new “Iron” categorization will be created within the existing Bronze category, for drivers over the age of 60.

Each car will be driven by one driver, eliminating the need for mandatory pit stops.

Points are awarded in the same way as in the Blancpain Sprint Series, with an overall classification and an Iron Cup classification.

The events will last just over 24 hours and will be held at Barcelona, Paul Ricard, Portimão and Misano.

Each meeting consists of a free practice and qualifying session, followed by a 25-minute Qualifying Race and 40-minute Main Race.

“With the Blancpain GT Series growing steadily more professional, SRO has become increasingly aware that only the most experienced Gentlemen drivers are still able to compete with reasonable chances of success in the Blancpain Endurance Series,” said Stéphane Ratel.

“Some other drivers, who have been our valued clients for many years in GT racing, feel they are no longer competitive in the Series we promote, or in many other national and international GT Series in Europe. Therefore, we thought that many of these drivers would prefer their own competition.”

April 18-19 – Barcelona (Espiritu de Montjuïc)
June 20-21  – Paul Ricard (BES)
September 5-6 – Algarve (BSS)
October 3-4 – Misano (BSS)
