Jaeger, Mosing Set Track Records for CTSC Poles at VIR

Both Brad Jaeger (GS) and Jeff Mosing (ST) set new track records in qualifying to score poles for the eighth round of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season at Virginia International Raceway.

Jaeger supplanted Jordan Taylor and Mosing knocked off Sylvain Tremblay, who held the previous records. The pole is also Jaeger’s first of his Continental Tire Challenge career, and first overall since a Star Mazda race at Sebring in 2006.

The pair of Doran Racing Nissan 370Zs have completed a front row lockout in GS, with Jaeger taking the No. 14 Nissan to pole at 1:58.029 ahead of Nic Hammann, at 1:58.326 in the No. 41 Nissan.

Jaeger will share the car with BJ Zacharias as they seek their fifth podium in six races, while Hammann will share his car with Nick McMillen, back for the first time since Watkins Glen.

“It feels absolutely amazing,” Jaeger said. “Sometimes when you come off the trailer good, you can tune yourselves out of the window. Not this weekend. Every change made it better and better. It’s fabulous. We want that win tomorrow.”

Behind the Nissans, Jade Buford slotted in third in the No. 158 Multimatic Motorsports Ford Shelby GT350R-C at 1:58.360, with the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing Porsche 911 and No. 9 Stevenson Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro Z/28.R completing the top five.

The points-leading No. 6 Stevenson Camaro of Andrew Davis and Robin Liddell will roll off from seventh, one spot behind the No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports BMW M3.

Mosing secured his first pole of the season and third of his career, in the No. 56 Murillo Racing Porsche Cayman he will share with Eric Foss. Foss led the morning practice session as well, and he and Mosing won last year.

Mosing edged four-time 2015 polesitter Justin Piscitell by more than a tenth, with Piscitell clocking in at 2:05.453 in the No. 34 Alara Racing Mazda MX-5 he’ll share with Christian Szymczak.

“I really wanted us to have a good showing to defend what we did last year,” Mosing said. “We have been struggling with setups all year, and they really nailed the setup for us.”

The No. 18 Rennsport One Porsche Cayman, No. 81 Bimmerworld BMW 328i and No. 93 HART Honda Civic Si cars completed the top five.

The pair of championship-contending Mazda MX-5s will roll off from sixth and 12th, respectively. Tom Long qualified the No. 26 Freedom Autosport Mazda half a second quicker than Chad McCumbee in the No. 5 CJ Wilson Racing Mazda, which made for a six-spot difference.

McCumbee and Stevan McAleer lead Long’s co-driver Andrew Carbonell by two points heading into Saturday’s race.
