Daniel Morad has stormed to pole for this afternoon’s Pirelli World Challenge GT Sprint race at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, in a rain-soaked qualifying session.

Morad reeled off a 1:29.331 in his No. 2 CRP Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 in the 20-minute session, which saw several last-minute improvements.

He edged out the No. 96 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of fellow Canadian Scott Hargrove by 0.242 seconds.

“Considering the conditions were difficult and we haven’t run in the wet before today, I’m happy for the team, and happy with the car,” Morad said.

“We’ve made improvements on the car after having a difficult race at VIR. Let’s see if we can translate today’s pole into a couple race wins.”

Championship leader Hargrove was the first driver to dip into the 1:30s, although his initial quick time was disallowed for exceeding track limits.

Michael Christensen will line up third overall in the No. 24 Alegra Motorsports Porsche, followed by Parker Chase, who claimed GTA pole honors with an impressive fourth-best overall time.

Chase outran both Daniel Mancinelli and Toni Vilander, who slotted in fifth and sixth overall, as well as the No. 9 K-PAX Racing Bentley Continental GT3 of Alvaro Parente in seventh.

The pair of Ferrari 488 GT3s and Bentley, however, were all over the the 107 percent qualifying minimum and have been moved to the rear of the ten-car starting field.

Race 1 gets underway at 1:55 p.m. ET, under expected dry conditions.
