Porsche to Defend IGTC Title With Revised Lineup

Porsche will defend its Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli title with a revised driver lineup not featuring its newly crowned driver’s champion.

Announced during Saturday’s ‘Night of Champions’ awards event, the German manufacturer will again allocate drivers for the entire five-round global GT3 championship.

Three of Porsche’s six-driver squad from its title-winning season return, with newly named factory drivers Matt Campbell and Mathieu Jaminet returning along with Dirk Werner.

Patrick Pilet, who has been dropped from the manufacturer’s IMSA lineup, meanwhile, will make his full-season IGTC debut along with Thomas Preining and Matteo Cairoli.

The three drivers replace Romain Dumas, Sven Mueller and 2019 IGTC drivers’ champion Dennis Olsen, who as well as Cairoli, have not been retained under Porsche’s driver program for next year.

Driver pairings for the IGTC season have not yet been announced.

Porsche is set to continue its customer sport strategy, which will see its drivers, engineers and consulting services utilized with local or privateer teams in the championship.

As reported by Sportscar365, Earl Bamber Motorsport is likely to defend its victory in the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour, which kicks off the 2020 IGTC season in February.

Other teams for Bathurst, and the rest of the globe-trotting season, have not yet been announced.
