Jeff Mosing has been ruled out of the next three IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge races due to a back injury sustained in last weekend’s Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America race at Road America.

The Murillo Racing driver, who was due to share the No. 56 Mercedes-AMG GT4 with Eric Foss, will now see Mosing’s Carrera Cup teammate Ryan Yardley drafted into the GS class entry for what will be his Pilot Challenge debut.

Mosing was competing last Friday in an IMSA single-make series race at Road America when a contact incident in the opening laps resulted in a heavy hit in the high-speed Kink section of the circuit.

Although Mosing immediately waved to the crowd from his stricken car, the incident aggravated a previous back injury.

A rib injury sustained in a recreational boating accident last year sidelined Mosing from Road America and several other races, but Foss and a pair of replacement drivers still combined to win a series-leading three races.

One of the victories was at Road America.

“It’s heartbreaking not having Jeff in the No. 56 car,” said team manager/driver Kenny Murillo. “It’s going to be a change, but unfortunately, we have done this before, and our focus is still to get a great result with both Murillo Racing entries.”

Foss added: “Road America just had a resurface done, so we were pretty excited that Jeff was racing last weekend to get some seat time and figure out the nuances of the repave.

“Unfortunately, he had an incident that is going to keep him out of the car. Going into this weekend it has been a little bit of a challenge trying to find a replacement driver that would do a good job and we would be comfortable with, but we have gotten to know Ryan Yardley a little bit this season as Jeff’s teammate in the other series.

“We are really excited to bring him in and give him an opportunity.

“He is a young New Zealander that has been in the U.S. the last few years but has had a pretty good run of success back home and in Australia in production-based racing.

“We are really looking forward to getting him in the car and seeing what he is capable of doing.”
