Danny Formal and Kyle Marcelli drove to their seventh Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America victory out of seven races this season, continuing their unbeaten form Saturday at Virginia International Raceway in a podium sweep for Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport.
Marcelli drove the No. 1 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 to a 19.523-second win over teammate Nate Stacy in the No. 8 entry in the caution-free 50-minute contest.
Having started from pole, Formal settled into a comfortable lead in the Harrison Contracting Co.-sponsored Lamborghini prior to the mid-race pit stop, that saw the No. 1 Lamborghini hold nearly a ten-second advantage.
The lead expanded when Marcelli got behind the wheel through the finish of the race.
The No. 84 WTR Andretti Lamborghini of Ryan Norman completed the podium in third, followed by the No. 30 ANSA Motorsports entry of Sebastian Saavedra and Nico Jamin, who was assessed a ten-second post race penalty for incident responsibility with the No. 99 NTE Sport entry of Jaden Conwright early in the race.
An additional 1.25 seconds was added to the No. 30 Lamborghini for too short of a pit stop which initially crossed the line second on the road.
Pro-Am class honors went to the No. 42 NTE Sport Lamborghini pairing of Luke Berkeley and Keawn Tandon, who extended his lead in the class points standings with the fifth place overall result.
The No. 69 Precision Performance Motorsports entry of Anthony McIntosh and Glenn McGee picked up top class honors in Am, while Mark Wilgus drove his No. 50 Forte Racing by US RaceTronics Lamborghini to the win in LB Cup.
The second and final race of the weekend is set for Sunday at 11:30 a.m. EDT with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
