311RS Motorsport has entered the inaugural Porsche Carrera Cup North America season with two 992-type Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, with former IMSA champion Leh Keen headlining the lineup.
Keen, a Grand-Am and American Le Mans Series class champion, will make his full-time professional racing return alongside Ryan Gates.
“I am so happy Porsche has decided to bring Carrera Cup to the States,” Keen said. “It’s a great opportunity for my career to come back to professional racing with my friends at 311RS Motorsport and in the Porsche GT3 Cup platform.
“There are a lot of familiar pieces to this program for me so I expect to hit the ground running. 311RS Motorsport has a nice history with the 911 GT3 platform and it’s awesome to see them step up to another level fresh off their success in SRO last year.”
Gates competed with the Minnesota team, which features a number of members from Goldcrest Motorsports, in GT Sports Club America last year, scoring multiple wins at the wheel of a Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport.
“This is exciting, simple as that,” he said. “The prospect of racing with a team built around a group of my best friends in the inaugural season of Porsche Carrera Cup North America is unreal.
“As a young team we enter the world of professional racing with humility. We will be up against some of the best in the world, a challenge that motivates us all. We are here to compete.”
A two-day test is scheduled for March 8-9 ahead of the season-opener at Sebring later in the month in support of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
